APICES session at the 23rd Colloquium of the Comité International de Paléographie Latine (Wien, 17-19 September 2025):https://cipl.hypotheses.org.

The 23rd Colloquium of the Comité International International de Paléographie Latine (CIPL), “Scribes and Hands. Old and New Methods of Scribal Identification (800-1550)” will take place in Vienna on 17-19 September 2025. The Bureau of CIPL has invited APICES to organise a “current research” session for early-career scholars to present recently started or ongoing projects and early results of current scientific undertakings.

The session organised by APICES will be thematically independent from the Colloquium. It will host papers of 20 minutes each, followed by a 10-minute discussion. The papers, on topics to be freely chosen by the speakers, will need to conform to a few formalia, with an aim of shaping “good practices” in the oral presentation of palaeographical and codicological research. The main points concern the structure of the papers, the quality, consistency and organisation of illustrations, and a preparation of a bilingual abstract and (if required) other handouts.

Interested scholars are kindly requested to contact dbelmonte@us.es. Proposals should be written in one of the CIPL’s official languages (English, French, German, Italian or Spanish) and contain the following information:

– author’s name and affiliation (if applicable)

– short curriculum vitae (1,000 characters max.)

– title

– summary (2,500 characters max.), specifying research context, methods and results.

The deadline is 15/5/2025. The selected papers will be announced by 31/5/2025. The complete texts of the papers must be sent by15/7/2025 to the Moderamen, which may then make further suggestions for the definitive version.

Selected speakers will receive a 600 EUR grant for travel expenses.
